Learn how to ace middle school! The transition to middle school can be a tough one -- Middle School Prep will help make it smoother. Through fun activities we will learn about time and work management, organizational skills, note taking, and study techniques.

Learn how to keep an agenda and prioritize tasks. Students will learn how to organize a notebook / binder for success in class as well as note-taking and studying techniques. Appropriate for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders as well as high schoolers struggling with these skills.

Maximum enrollment is 15 students.

Name: Grammar Bootcamp
Age: Grade 5 - 8
Offered: Week 1; AM Session & Week 2; AM Session
Instructor: Ms. Kate Mote

Grammar doesn’t need to be an intimidating mystery! Through this course, students will become familiar with parts of speech, punctuation rules, and grammatical conventions so that they can take ownership of their own writing and communication as leaders.

This class will combine lessons with activities as we not only learn these important definitions and rules, but also apply them. This camp is appropriate for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students.

Maximum enrollment is 15 students.

Name: Pre-Algebra & Algebra Skills Camp
Age: All students interested in Pre-Algebra & Algebra
UPDATE: Offered: Week 2; AM Session
Instructor: Ms. Gini Nichols

In this camp, we'll focus on building and strengthening the math skills most important for the pre-algebra (Course 3) and algebra (Algebra 1) courses.  A brief pre-test will be given to help identify which skills each student needs the most attention with, and then each day's lessons, discussions, and practice will be focused on them. As well, this camp will coincide with an entry-level arithmetic camp, so students can move to and from the two camps as needed (pending space availability) to focus on skills they need.

Students should be prepared with pencils, erasers, a basic scientific calculator (or better, but no phones/tablets), and any previous math work that shows which skills are needed. Anticipated topics are exponents and roots; substitution; graphing foundations; solving simple equations; mathematical inverse operations; and word-problem solving skills, though it will highly depend on students' needs.

Name: Lucky Numbers
Age: Grades 6 - 8
Offered: Week 1; AM Session
Instructor: Mrs. Natasha Hyde

This math camp is an opportunity for middle-school students (Grades 6-8) to review and improve their math skills over the summer season.

Each day we will complete a fun and challenging activity requiring one of the major math skills needed for success in middle-school. These topics will be based on the needs of the students enrolled. Students who have mastered the middle school skills will be given the opportunity to experience algebra concepts.

Minimum enrollment is 8 students & maximum enrollment is 16 students.

About the Instructors:

Natasha Hyde: B.A., Chemistry, Suffolk University, M.Ed., Southern New Hampshire University. My name is Natasha Hyde and I am excited to be teaching mathematics this year. Following the completion of my bachelor’s degree in chemistry in 2003, I worked as a chemist and veterinary nurse before becoming a stay-at-home mother to my identical twin daughters and a small business owner in 2009. I then completed my Master of Education from Southern New Hampshire University.

Kate Mote: B.A., English, Minor in Classics, University of New Hampshire, M.A., English, Southern New Hampshire University, M.A.T., Secondary English Education, Southern New Hampshire University.  Ms. Mote has been an enthusiast of classic literature since the 7th grade. She believes that studying the written word teaches us about ourselves, our place in the world, and self-expression. Ms. Mote graduated from a classical high school where she studied Latin and great works of literature, culminating in a year-long study and a 100-page senior thesis based on the complete works of Shakespeare.

Gini Nichols: B.A., Math / Education, New England College, M., Math / Education, Plymouth State University.  As a non-traditional student, Virginia began her undergraduate studies at age 40 to enrich her life but soon realized that teaching math was where she wanted to focus. After completing her undergraduate program and teaching for a few years she decided to pursue a graduate degree in math / education at Plymouth State University. Here she learned to enrich her lessons with technology and new strategies to help students with different learning styles.  When not teaching Virginia can be seen running the roads and trails around New Hampshire or birding at Plum Island, Massachusetts.  She has been tailoring clothes for many years and enjoys making her own clothes.
