Joanna Marcotte received her Bachelor of Arts degree in American Political History & K-8 Elementary Education in 2000 from New England College. Joanna is also certified to as an Elementary K-8 generalist, K-12 Technology Integration Specialist, and statement of eligibility to teach K-12 social studies.  In the spring of 2017, Ms. Marcotte earned her Level 1 Google Certified Educator credential.  She spent a week during the summer of 2017 at the School of the Mines in Golden, CO training on the Exploring Computer Science curriculum as part of CSPdWeek.  In the summer of 2018, Ms. Marcotte headed to Kansas City, Missouri to work as a rater for the AP - Computer Science Principles exam.  This experience has provided Ms. Marcotte with valuable insight as to how the exam is scored to assist our students with greater success in the years to come.

Ms. Marcotte began her 7th & 8th grade English Language Arts, at Barnstead Elementary School, where she was an early adopter of an online grading system and using technology as an instructional tool and means for students creating projects. She then spent twelve years teaching social studies at Winnisquam Regional Middle School, during which time she taught social studies and infused technology into classroom instruction on a daily basis by utilizing a wide range of interactive tools to bring history to life. Ms. Marcotte’s knack for using technology in the classroom lead her to pursue her Master's Degree in Educational Technology at Boise State University with a dual certificate in Technology Integration and Online Teaching. Ms. Marcotte has taught computer science to students in grades K-8 for the Newfound School District and the Winnisquam School District.

Ms. Marcotte is especially excited to be teaching at The Founders Academy because of its focus on leadership and history. She was very active while pursuing her undergraduate degree with the Model United Nations. She is excited to work with faculty, staff, and students to infuse technology into the Founders curriculum.

Ms. Marcotte lives in Alexandria with her two children. Her hobbies include scrapbooking, hiking, cooking, reading, and learning about new emerging technology practices in education.
